Super Modified...behind the scenes

Graham Ellis was back in the hot seat of the marauding Oldsmobile. After jumping in at the deep end with an all out of shape 7.74 on Saturday and dominating qualifying, the Chevy threw a rod and was unable to make eliminations.

Making a welcome return to the strip was Simon Farmer and his revamped Nova. Simon and Vince thrashed away for most of the weekend to get through the tech process so they could hit the track. After a couple of squirelly passes (and subsequent great driving jobs) on Saturday evening, the 'Terror Nova' spat it's propshaft and cut through a rear slick on it's 1st round victory and was unable to make the semi's.

Steve Rawlings and crew preparing intensely for another qualifying pass!

Kev Taylor was again suffering with a few gremlins, the back-half numbers already present but the team have been struggling to get the Capri away from the line.

Another car making a return to the action was the immaculately prepared 'Obsession' Camaro of the Gibbs family. After finishing last year on a high the car has become an increasing source of frustration for the team as they chase a suspected electrical problem. As with all the cars in the class however, the potential is there to be right at the top.

Another meeting, another clutch problem for the Kirk Motorsport team! After finally sorting it on Sunday the fuel pump failed and gave the Camaro a headache with fluctuating fuel pressure. A temporary patch-up job paid off in the end though as ©Rat Fink graced the winner's circle for the first time in '05.

As with any Super Mod event, the race starts long before the car gets a look at the track. Engines have to be warmed, tyre and nitrous pressures set, last minute tune-up decisions have to be made, and the drivers themselves strapped in snugly. All have to be undertaken before a tyre is turned.

Defending champ Andy Hone, driver of Gleeson Wright Security sponsored Scorpio takes a moment to phsyc himself up before another pass!

Andy Kirk was in an upbeat mood after finally getting to the end of the clutch problems. However the team were unaware that another problem was just about to rear it's head....

Kev Taylor, strapped in and ready to go for another 8 and a half second ride (and mandatory sideways burnout!)

PThe Big Bang marked the debut of Paul Mander's new Plymouth Arrow. Although not complete, the Mopar motor was teched in preperation for a possible Bug Jam track appearance.

After the obligatory close Super Mod final, Andy Kirk used a holeshot to gain the victory over the F&M Racing team.

Another event over, and finally both teams could relax and reflect on the weekend.
