A case of starting the way they finished for Ellis Racing

The first race of the season saw Kev Perkins at the helm of Graham Ellis' Oldsmobile Cutlass once more. Graham had intended to be behind the wheel himself, however as he was due to be a father again over the course of the weekend, he needed to be on stand-by.

Graham reports......."Missing out of one of the two qualifiers Saturday then the only one Sunday ment that there isn't a great deal that can be said...Obviously Kev's performance in the one qualifier we did have speaks for itself. The fact is that nothing is new ( except some engine consumables and paint ) so the car really wasn't going to be much different to last year. The thing is that I know that there are many teams out there that, when they get their sh*t together have the capabilities to be as quick as we are."

"It's annoying that many people are quick to say 'it's only because Kev Perkins is tuning it' . While Kev is a good experienced tuner who is an asset to the team, in previous seasons we were still as quick, or quicker than Danny Cockerill for who Kev was working for at that time. Check out the Super Modified track records at SPR and SCR. That was us against Kev and Danny."

Ellis Racing are also one man lighter on the team for this year...."I've lost a crew member to Danny and his new Pro Mod. My son Gareth is now working on the '57 looking after the clutch. It seems that Super Mod is a good place to learn, after all a clutch is a clutch and whatever the engine is on the front of it, it needs to do the same thing. Also, Dave Reed, Dan's Crew Chief has come straight out of Super Mod. Yup, the engines are different but the servicing and maintenance during the day isn't by much."
Its all there, Super Modified is there to have fun, learn if you want to, and despite often being overlooked, still the best and most competitive class in sportsman drag racing."

"Oh almost forgot i got a 8lb6oz girl called Katie on the 6th of April, so i could have bloody driven at Easter!......"
