Poison Arrow Prone And Ready For The Remainder Of '06

"Having entered Super Modified at the Easter Thunderball (first time in competition for 20 years!!) I was very nervous and anxious. However, having Glenn Walker and Paul Brooks (From the Out Of Time Super Modified team) working with me made me feel comfortable, as these two guys are great to have around and know everything needed to know about running doorslammers. Our first full pass carded a 10.40 @ 132.35 mph, only to find that we were 257lbs under weight! This meant that the nitrous was a no go for the weekend."

"The majority of Friday and Saturday was spent borrowing and installing weight bars from Andy Kirk and Tim Garlick. After 4 runs we had managed to bolt 146lbs of lead into the car so we run could it as normally aspirated for the weekend (class rules state no more than 200lbs of ballast to be added). We finally got the car qualified with a 9.94@137.97 which put us at #8 in the qualifiying order and paired us with Graham Ellis (in the Olds) for the first round. Well that was the end of the weekend for us because Graham ran one of his usually quick and consistent mid 7 sec passes to put us on the trailer and make us concentrate on thoughts of adding weight to the Poison Arrow."

"The Summernationals was next and we took the Arrow to the track with lots of weight welded in. Unfortunately Paul (Brooks) was having a baby and Glenn was unable to attend, so I was accompanied by Cliff Bagg (work colleague) who was also present at the Thunderball, his son Daryl and Peter Thompson. Saturday morning's first qualifier was a no-nitrous pass which carded a 10.44 which we thought was not that bad with all that extra weight, but after being weighed we were still 58lbs under weight! Once Andy Kirk had lent us his 52lb weight bar and a few other bits we decided to turn the bottle on for the first time......"

"With small jets and a mild tune-up, and Fred (Andy Hone )assisting us on the start line, we were all hoping the Arrow would turn in a mid 9 sec run so the team and I were over the moon with the result, an 8.61 @ 154mph! We were also weighed at 8lbs over our race weight we knew that we would be celebrating with a few shandy bass tops for the evening!"

"Sunday morning saw us qualified #7 and paired with Andy Kirk in the first round. The result was the same as the Thunderball, as we were blitzed by 7.75 from Andy to my 8.53 (new PB). Still we were happy with the way the weekend went. As the semi finalists were being called Craig Gibbs and myself were allowed to tag on behind for a practice lap. A slight jet increase was installed, the result being an 8.32 @ 158mph.....shandy bass all round, but no lemonade top this time!

"Everyone on the team is looking forward to the Bug Jam to see what we can wring out of the old girl! A big thank you to Clive Bond of Ultimate Race Cars for building the motor and to Cliff,Peter,Fred,Paul,Glenn and Daryl and everyone else who has helped."

Cheers, Paul.
